Defective Drug - Serzone
Serzone is an oral antidepressant marketed by Bristol Myers Squibb Pharmaceutical Company. The drug is indicated to treat moderate to severe symptoms of depression. In December of 2001, the FDA notified Bristol Myers that it must include a black box warning on the label of Serzone to inform patients and doctors that it may cause life threatening liver damage in some patients. The warning estimates that Serzone increases your chance of liver failure by three to four times.
Some symptoms of liver failure include jaundice (yellowing of eyes or skin), severe abdominal pain, and elevated liver function tests.
